The world is both amazing and small. It doesn't take that much effort any more to get from one side of it to the other - at least not with a half decent aircraft.
After 2 and a half months, from the mists of Ireland, to the Abbeys of France, the waltz of Istanbul to the angst of Israel. From new friendships to the death of my Grandfather, it's been a journey of significance.
If there was any one treasure that I brought back with me from our pilgrimage, it was the knowledge that God is good, and so are most people most of the time.
If fact I'd go so far as to say that the default attitude of your average human being is to desire good for their fellow human being. This is a comforting thing to be reminded of, and makes all the hardship of travel worth while.
Friday afternoon Nemeritus and I said good bye to my Schwaben Uncle who gave us a lift to Stuttgart. We caught a super fast DB ICE train full of of end of week commuters with Linux on their laptops, from Stuttgart to Frankfurt flughaften. Our Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Singapore felt surprisingly short for a little under 10 hours.
From the Singapore airport bristling with wifi both free & commercial where Nemeritus had a shower, we caught a Singapore airlines flight to Brisbane. Singapore airlines make a big effort and this was a very pleasant flight indeed. everything from fluffy socks to Nintendo games were provided, and the 8 hour flight just zipped past.
Before you knew it, the familiar sights of Moreton bay were below us, and we were vectored over it into Brisbane. Both of our families were there to greet us, and it was a delight to be back home, even if the temperature and humidity were unfriendly.
Later that afternoon there was a brief get together with friends at a BBQ in the rain, and then finally after the sun had sunk below the horizon, I could get some sleep.
Next morning, I was off to work, to find a pile of problems awaiting me.
Life is a magnificent gift that requires a response. Free Will leaves the response up to our own personal choice. Yet, there is an urgency about it. Time is burning away.
