Life is like a kitchen. You can walk in hungry, and look for something tasty that's ready to eat in the fridge, and complain if you don't find any - or you can carefully asses the ingredients you do have, apply some skill, and prepare a tasty morsel based on what's at hand.
I suspect that an active loving relationship with the omnipotent author of everything is somewhat like that analogy also. At least it is for me.
You may search for a previously prepared proof of God's active participation in your life (
and they do exist, but just may not be in your fridge), or you can take the care to notice the litany of signs that flood one's day like notes in a symphony. When you mix these ingredients together, with a little care, flair and passion, you'll end up with a very pleasant meal, that is pleasant in appearance and good to eat.
God is very reasonable. He does talk to us in language that we understand - at our level, but it's up to us to pay attention and notice. Conversations take two, so it's a good idea to also talk back. That darn free will of ours does need to be guided and directed. Our conscience needs to be informed, our intellect needs to be fed and expanded, and we need to care for others.
I am no Pollyanna, this world we live is Seriously screwed up, or "disordered" as is the charitable way to refer to it's screwyness.
Western society today seems hell bent on replicating the mistakes we made between 1919 and 1939, and most everyone is too busy cramming as much of the junk food of immediate gratification in their diet that they don't take time to consider the disease and good ol' fashion constipation that comes from such an empty and superficial life. Wisdom seems to have been forgotten, humility is equated to weakness and thinking is just not cool.
However, there is always hope - even on the top of
Masada with the Roman's at the door knocking.
Hope is from God, and should lead you to God. He takes the care to leave significant things about the place, so that there is Always something there to remind me of Him.
